Musk’s X AI Launch Grok 3 Whilst The Company Is Set to Expand

Grok 3, the latest AI offering from Elon Musk’s X AI, is sending ripples in the tech world This most recent release means X AI is starting to compete with Open AI, Google DeepMind and the other large AI companies. In addition to Grok 3, X AI has quickly been expanding its infrastructure and is said to be pursuing even more funding to support its ambitious plans. But the company has been criticized as well for its risk management policies and operational judgments.

Grok 3’s launch has dominated headlines, with experts calling it a major breakthrough in AI technology. As reported by Newsflayer, this powerful new model is designed to push the boundaries of artificial intelligence, offering enhanced reasoning, real-time data access, and superior computational power. With X AI aggressively scaling its supercomputing infrastructure, the competition in the AI space is heating up. However, alongside its rapid advancements, concerns over transparency and responsible AI development continue to spark debate.

Grok 3’s Debut: A Giant Leap in AI vector works

On February 17, 2025, xAI launched Grok 3, an advanced AI model that, according to the company, would outperform current chatbot devices. It was trained on Colossus, the new supercomputer they’d acquired which, at the time they were training Grok 3, housed more than 200,000 GPUs, giving this model such a computational advantage over its predecessors as to make its predecessors practically obsolete. Initial benchmark tests suggest Grok 3 outperforms OpenAI’s GPT-4 Turbo and Google’s Gemini Ultra on reasoning, coding and mathematics tasks.

Grok 3, which Musk referred to as “the smartest AI on Earth,” showcased its ability to solve intricate problems effectively. It includes real-time data access from the platform X (formerly known as Twitter) and, therefore, has access to the latest news and developments, a feature that makes it stand out from competitors who rely on pre-trained knowledge.

Expanding Supercomputers: Colossus Ascent

To drive Grok 3 and future iterations of AI, xAI has dramatically expanded its supercomputer in Memphis, Colossus. Originally consisting of 20k GPUs, the facility is now at 200k GPUs; they’ll reach 1m GPUs soon. Nvidia’s chief executive, Jensen Huang, hailed the expansion as a “superhuman effort,” which was finished in just 122 days.

The venture thus establishes xAI as an AI infrastructure powerhouse on par with major cloud computing companies such as Microsoft and Google. Experts say that such enhanced computational power could facilitate the accelerated training of next-gen AI models, extending the reach of what AI can do.

Funding and Valuation Growth

xAI Limited has been a very hot company to invest in, with $6 billion of Series C funding in 4th quarter of 2024. The investment round lifted the company’s valuation to about $50 billion. It is also said that xAI is in talks with investors to raise another $10b, valuing them at $75b. Some of its biggest investors currently are Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz and Valor Equity Partners.

This new investment is likely to help further advance their AI, infrastructure improvements, and new initiatives such as new AI-enabled applications beyond simply chatbots.

Challenges and Controversies

While it has been growing and innovating rapidly, xAI has seen questions raised around its risk management and operational transparency. In a recent study by the nonprofit SaferAI, xAI’s risk management was rated “very weak,” receiving a score of 0 out of 5. The report raised red flags about the company’s absence of explicit policies for detecting and addressing risks posed by AI.

In perhaps the most controversial aspect of Grok 3, it briefly censored mentions of Elon Musk and former U.S. president Donald Trump from answers to questions about misinformation. The problem was blamed on a new hire who had not yet fully settled into xAI’s culture, and the company quickly fixed the error. Igor Babuschkin, xAI’s co-founder and head of engineering, said in a blog post that the incident was not representative of xAI’s core mission, highlighting the importance of creating AI that responds neutrally with no bias.

Upcoming Features: AI-Driven Game Experience and Independent Apps

Not only is xAI not a chatbot, he is doing new things. It’s alleged that the company is building a separate AI app for Grok, which will rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini AI. It is also probably come up with improved voice modes, bringing more interactivity in the app process.

Musk also is focusing on the gaming area and plans to add AI there as well. X AI wants to make AI-driven video games and threaten the big game studios and revolutionize the industry with intelligent mechanics and story-telling in the game.
